Trenton Arts Fellow Finalist
I’m excited to share that I was recently named a finalist for the Trenton Arts Fellowship, a program supported by Mercer County Community College and Princeton University’s Lewis Center for the Arts. Alongside our Trenton Arts Fellow Beni Jusu!!! I’m so excited!
Being recognized as a finalist is meaningful. It affirms the direction of my work and the importance of continuing to create art that is rooted in community and place.
My practice has always been centered around capturing everyday life the moments, spaces, and environments that shape how people experience their neighborhoods. Being acknowledged by a fellowship that values community-engaged work in Trenton reinforces my commitment to telling these stories.
What I’m Working on Next
As part of this next phase, I am developing a new body of work that explores Black spaces across New Jersey.
This series will focus on:
gathering spaces
neighborhood environments
everyday interactions
the relationship between people and their surroundings
Through painting, I want to document and reflect the presence, resilience, and culture that exist within these spaces especially the ones that are often overlooked or undervalued.
