Finding my place in Trenton’s art scene got me to be a full-time Artist.

My journey to becoming a full-time artist really began when I moved to New Jersey. I had heard about an all-night art event called Art All Night, and my sister encouraged me to apply and submit a piece of my work. I decided to enter one painting, and the night I showed up, I was completely blown away.

The event was incredible artists from all over, at every stage of their careers, came together for one night of pure creativity. There were fine artists, dancers, live bands, food and filmmakers the energy was electric. I hadn’t realized that Trenton was such a thriving art mecca. It was eye-opening to see so many people dedicated to their craft and doing the absolute most to express themselves.

I met Craig Shofed, a curator who introduced me to Buck Malvo, another curator, and through them, I met so many artists who are now part of my life. These connections didn’t just help me grow as an artist they gave me a second family, a support system that has kept me inspired, motivated, and grounded.

After that, I tried Art All Day, another vibrant Trenton art event, which allowed me to show my work in a more extended format and connect even further with the local creative community. Through these experiences, I gained confidence, found mentors, and realized I could make art my full-time career.

The culmination of this journey was when I landed my very first solo show at Artworks in Trenton, NJ. That moment validated all the work, risk-taking, and community support that had gotten me there. Thanks to the Trenton art scene, I was able to step fully into my identity as a professional artist, surrounded by people who encourage, challenge, and uplift me.

I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and inspiration of the art community in Trenton, New Jersey my second family.
